MEDICAL LUBRICANTS

This category of lubricants can best be divided into two sections, one pertaining to Surgical/Medical lubricants, and Medical Equipment lubricants.

Surgical/Medical lubricants were developed to help both the health care professionals and patients during medical procedures. These lubricants are used to prevent tissue damage when inserting surgical instruments into the orifices of their patients. These lubricants often contain Lidocaine which is a topical anesthetic that causes loss of feeling to the surrounding tissue.

Medical lubricants are also used to help a variety of other heath disorders such as psoriasis, skin and eye dryness, vaginal dryness and inadequate lubrication during sexual activity. These lubricants come in the form of shampoos, eye drops, ointments and lotions/oils.  Although treatments for these disorders should be discussed with a physician, some helpful products have evolved into a new market of personal lubricants and are now available over the counter.

Medical Equipment lubricants are designed for use in medical and dental instruments. These instruments are subjected to a variety of sterilization, radiation and chemical wash down procedures and must exhibit uncompromising reliability.  Failure is unacceptable for life sustaining equipment.  High temperatures, noise levels and even patient comfort are some of the criteria taken into consideration when choosing these lubricants.  These lubricants are used in wide variety of instruments and equipment including dental drills, dialysis machines, oxygen systems, electronic connectors and bed casters to name a few.
